Carlton's head coach, Michael Voss, has firmly stated that the club will not consider any trade offers for their key forward, Charlie Curnow, during the upcoming offseason. Curnow's situation has generated significant speculation, particularly after he indicated at his exit meeting that he might be interested in seeking a fresh start. However, Voss clarified that while Curnow is "open" to ideas about a move, he is not insisting on leaving the club, and Carlton intends to ignore inquiries from other teams regarding his availability.
Despite facing multiple injury challenges this season, Curnow remains one of the top forwards in the league when healthy and is under contract until the end of 2029. Voss reaffirmed the club's commitment to Curnow during a radio interview, expressing confidence that the forward will continue with Carlton through 2026. He acknowledged Curnow's impressive track record, being a two-time Coleman medallist, and highlighted the importance of retaining him as part of the team’s future.
Curnow's situation is notably similar to that of other star players at Carlton, with teammates Tom De Koning and Jack Silvagni also expected to leave as free agents. Voss was asked about the potential reasons behind Curnow's thoughts about moving, but he opted not to delve deeply into the specifics, suggesting that both the team and Curnow have faced significant challenges this past season, including his three surgeries.
While Voss expressed understanding towards De Koning’s decision to explore an eight-year deal with St Kilda, he acknowledged that it's difficult for clubs when players choose to depart. Additionally, he confirmed that the decision to allow contracted player Elijah Hollands to seek a trade was indeed influenced by off-field issues, as Hollands had taken personal leave during the season and ended the year playing in the VFL.
Following a disappointing 11th place finish this year, Carlton is looking to be proactive in the player market. Voss stated the Blues are ready to make significant moves to strengthen their roster, mentioning their interest in acquiring players to improve goal-scoring and ball movement. He reiterated the need to address specific areas of their team to enhance their competitive edge in the future.

Holding onto fading stars is how you stay mediocre. Let Curnow go.

We’d be fools to let him go! He is still elite.

Voss is showing leadership by backing Curnow and saying “we need you.” Love it!

Are we just supposed to ignore what Curnow wants? That's disrespectful.

Voss is prioritizing sentimentality over the team's future. Poor decision.
