In a recent memorandum, President Donald Trump directed the Secret Service to stop providing security for former Vice President Kamala Harris, thereby revoking an extension originally authorized by President Joe Biden. The order arrives as Harris was set to lose her protection on July 20, following the conclusion of her term as vice president, though the Biden administration had extended these measures until January 2026.

The decision to withdraw Harris’s security detail, which was first reported by CNN, has raised questions about Trump's motives. Harris's adviser, Kristen Allen, expressed gratitude towards the Secret Service for their professionalism and commitment to safety. This action aligns with a broader trend where Trump has used his influence to strip protective measures from former officials he perceives as political rivals, even those facing verified threats.

Since reclaiming the presidency, Trump has previously revoked protective services for individuals like his former national security adviser John Bolton and ex-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who had been targets of assassination threats from Iran. Just as he took such actions against them, he also ended security for former President Biden’s adult children, including Hunter Biden, despite a previous commitment to their protection for six months post-presidency.
