"Fashion, power & the art of staying silent."
Initially, supporters of the MAGA movement enthusiastically praised the image. They seemed to miss the satirical nature of the design, unaware that it was generated by artificial intelligence. The title "America's Queen" was a direct reference to the protests against the Trump administration, where demonstrators had voiced their opposition with "No Kings" protests.
However, it was later revealed that the cover was entirely fabricated. Melania Trump had actually declined an invitation to be featured on a Vanity Fair cover. According to reports, she found the offer amusing when it was extended to her in July. A source close to the former First Lady stated that she was not interested in a photoshoot, as her priorities as First Lady were more important.
The rejection came after Vanity Fair staff members reportedly threatened to quit if Mrs. Trump was given the cover spot. The magazine's new global editorial director, Mark Guiducci, attempted to persuade her, but his employees were strongly opposed to the idea. One editor was quoted as saying that if Melania was on the cover, half the editorial staff would quit.
Adding to the situation, California Governor Gavin Newsom created his own AI-generated cover, mimicking the original. He portrayed himself in a similar pose to Melania, wearing a crown and titled "The American King, Gavin Newsom’s Vocal Revolution." The cover promised a glimpse into the private world of the governor and concluded with a satirical tagline.

The whole Newsom mimicking thing is childish and a desperate attempt to stay relevant.
