A man has died following a collision on Scotland's busiest motorway. The incident occurred on the M8 near Newhouse, North Lanarkshire. Emergency services were alerted to the scene on the eastbound section of the road, which connects Edinburgh and Glasgow, at approximately 12:40 pm on Thursday. A 52-year-old pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
The road was closed for several hours to allow for investigations. It reopened to traffic around 6 pm. Police Scotland confirmed that the driver of a white Volvo HGV, also involved in the incident, was not injured.
Police Scotland expressed gratitude to the public for their assistance at the scene. Sergeant Gemma Blackadder extended condolences to the deceased man's family and all those affected by the incident.
Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. They are urging anyone who witnessed the collision, or observed the vehicles involved shortly before the incident, to come forward and contact them. Additionally, anyone with dash-cam footage that may be relevant to the investigation is asked to provide it to the police.
