Weather forecasts indicate a potential heatwave affecting parts of the UK in the coming days, with temperatures expected to soar. Maps show a significant shift towards warmer conditions, with several cities potentially experiencing temperatures reaching 28C by September 8th. This follows a period of wet weather that marked the end of August.
According to the weather models, a large number of cities across the country are expected to see temperatures exceeding 25C. Areas including Manchester, Sheffield, Derby, Stoke on Trent, and Nottingham are predicted to experience the highest temperatures, potentially reaching 28C. The warmer weather may also extend to East Anglia, with Norwich also forecasted to reach 28C.
Other cities, such as York, Birmingham, Leicester, and Scarborough, could see highs of 27C, while London and surrounding areas are expected to experience temperatures around 26C. Luton, Oxford, Gloucester, and Northampton are also anticipated to have temperatures around 26C. However, the Met Office has offered a contrasting outlook.
The Met Office anticipates a "wet and windy" start to autumn, with no indication of a sustained return to hot and dry conditions. Their long-range forecast for the period between September 3rd and 12th suggests changeable and unsettled weather, dominated by low-pressure systems. This is expected to bring showers and spells of rain across much of the UK, with the possibility of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds. Temperatures are likely to be near or slightly below average, with occasional warmer spells during drier periods.
