According to a recent poll, the majority of Americans are no longer confident in Donald Trump's ability to facilitate a peace deal concerning Ukraine. Trump had previously claimed on the campaign trail that he could finalize such a deal within 24 hours upon his return to the presidency. However, he has now acknowledged that the situation is more challenging than he had anticipated. Despite extending cordial gestures to Vladimir Putin during a meeting in Alaska, Putin has not offered significant concessions and has ramped up his military aggression against Ukraine, with increased assaults on both military targets and civilian areas. As a result, many Americans doubt Trump’s competency to bring the war to a close.
The Gallup survey, conducted with 2,132 adults between August 1 and August 15, revealed that 78% of respondents were skeptical about the ability of the US and its allies to negotiate an end to the prolonged conflict, which has persisted for over three years. Among those surveyed, 67% expressed feelings of pessimism regarding the likelihood of a peace agreement between Moscow and Kyiv. This skepticism spans across party lines, including over half of Republican respondents—57%—who were doubtful about achieving a ceasefire. Even more Democrats, 78%, felt similarly discouraged. Furthermore, the poll indicated a significant decline in the number of Republicans who believe the US is adequately supporting Ukraine, dropping from 67% in December to just 40%. This decrease may highlight rising frustrations among Republicans regarding Putin's unyielding stance in the conflict.
A representative from Gallup noted that the transition from the Biden administration to Trump has resulted in an increased number of Americans believing that the US is insufficiently aiding Ukraine. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reiterated the necessity for holding Russia accountable for its severe attacks on civilians. Following a recent horrific attack in Kyiv that left at least 23 dead and 50 people missing, Zelensky stated, "When instead of diplomacy Russia chooses ballistics... it means the world must respond accordingly." He called for robust sanctions and strong measures to ensure that those responsible for the violence do not escape justice.

They twist his words. Trump knows how to negotiate tough, he just hasn't revealed his strategy yet.

This story is biased. They focus on the negative but ignore his past successes. He's a dealmaker!
