Air Ambulance Pilot Honored for Heroism in Dog Attack Incident

Captain Jon Earp, an air ambulance pilot, received commendations for his heroic actions during a distressing dog attack incident in Gwynedd. On November 17, 2023, while the landlord, Gwilym Wyn Roberts, was visiting a property to collect rent, he was viciously attacked by an XL Bully owned by tenant Lisa Grant, resulting in serious injuries for both him and others who tried to assist. Faced with a violent situation, Captain Earp had to make a critical decision—he borrowed a shotgun from a nearby farmer and shot the aggressive dog four times to subdue it after the first shot proved ineffective.

The court hearing revealed the traumatic experiences that the victims suffered, including life-altering injuries. Lisa Grant, 56, pleaded guilty to owning a dangerously out-of-control dog, which led to the incident. Following her self-defense attempt during the attack, she sustained significant injuries, prompting multiple surgeries. The judge acknowledged the psychological toll on Mrs. Grant, noting her ongoing struggles with PTSD and the difficulty she faces in returning to the scene.

Judge Nicola Jones mentioned the extreme fear experienced by Mr. Roberts and emphasized the life-threatening nature of the injuries sustained by those involved. She praised Captain Earp's quick thinking and the emergency services' efforts in confronting a dangerous situation. As a result, Mrs. Grant received an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, and was prohibited from owning animals in the future, alongside a mandate for rehabilitation activities. The harsh realities of the attack left lasting scars on the victims, underscoring the incident's severity.
