Young Girl in Critical Condition After Minneapolis School Shooting

A young girl, Sophia Forchas, is in critical condition following Wednesday's mass shooting at a Minneapolis Catholic school. The attack occurred during a Mass at Annunciation Catholic Church, where Sophia was beginning her first week as a seventh-grade student at the adjoining Annunciation Catholic School.

Sophia's mother, a pediatric critical care nurse at Hennepin Healthcare in downtown Minneapolis, rushed to the hospital to assist with the victims, unaware at the time that her own daughter was among them. A GoFundMe page has been established to support the family, raising a significant amount of money within the first day.

Father Timothy Sas of St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Church in Minneapolis, where the Forchas family are parishioners, released a statement. He described Sophia's deep involvement in the church community and expressed gratitude for the global outpouring of prayers. A special prayer service was scheduled at St. Mary's for Sophia and all those affected by the tragedy.

The shooting resulted in nineteen injuries, including sixteen children. Two children, aged 8 and 10, died from their injuries. Three elderly parishioners are among the survivors. Sophia's younger brother was also present during the attack but was unharmed.

Sophia underwent emergency surgery and is currently recovering in the ICU. The GoFundMe page acknowledges the long and challenging road ahead for her, emphasizing her strength and the support she has.
