A Polish F-16 pilot lost his life on Thursday when his aircraft crashed during preparations for an air show in central Poland. The tragic event was confirmed by government spokesperson Adam Szłapka in a social media announcement. The Polish news agency PAP reported that the jet belonged to the Polish Air Force.
Szłapka expressed his sorrow, stating that the crash occurred during preparations for the air show in Radom and that the pilot had died. He also mentioned that the defense minister was en route to the accident site.
According to a statement from the Polish military, no one on the ground was harmed in the crash. Videos released by Polish media depicted the aircraft executing an acrobatic maneuver before crashing onto the runway and erupting in flames.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk conveyed his deepest condolences to the pilot's family and loved ones. Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz also shared on social media that he was present at the crash site.
The incident took place in advance of the AirSHOW Radom 2025, an event scheduled to take place this weekend, approximately 60 miles south of Warsaw. Further details regarding the crash were not immediately available.
