Mark Teixeira, the ex-first baseman for the New York Yankees, made an announcement on Thursday about his intentions to enter the political arena by running for a Congressional seat in Texas. This seat is currently held by Republican Representative Chip Roy, who recently stated that he will not seek re-election. In his statement shared on X, the 45-year-old Teixeira identified himself as “a lifelong conservative,” asserting that his campaign will be centered around advocating for what he perceives as the fundamental principles that contribute to the greatness of Texas and the U.S. He also expressed his readiness to support President Trump’s America First agenda, focusing on the needs of Texas families and the preservation of individual freedoms.
Teixeira's baseball career is distinguished by a pivotal moment in 2009 when he secured his only World Series championship with the Yankees after signing a substantial eight-year contract worth $180 million ahead of that season. Drafted fifth overall by the Texas Rangers in 2001, he made his Major League Baseball debut in 2003 and enjoyed a successful 14-season career during which he smashed over 400 home runs, earned five Gold Gloves, and was selected as an All-Star three times.
Throughout much of the 2010s, while playing for the Yankees and in the early period of his retirement, Teixeira resided in Greenwich, Connecticut. In that community, he was known for his philanthropic efforts and served on the board of a film festival. His estate sold for $7 million in 2021, and public records indicate he was a registered voter in the 2020 election, although his registration status became inactive by 2022.

Gold Gloves and a World Series ring don't help you draft good legislation. Let's not confuse athletic prowess with smarts.

What does he know about policy? He's a former baseball player. Let him stick to his sport!

Texas needs someone who can foster unity, not embrace divisive, far-right agendas.

Focusing on 'individual freedoms'? That's code for ignoring community needs and social safety nets.
