Israel Confirms Second Attack on Houthi Targets in Yemen

On Thursday, Israel acknowledged that it executed an airstrike targeting Houthi militants in Sanaa, Yemen, marking the second such assault in less than a week. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) indicated that the Houthis are acting under Iranian influence and pose a threat to both Israel and its allies. The IDF further accused the Houthis of destabilizing the region and interfering with international navigation rights.

Following the airstrike, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz warned the Houthis, stating, "After the plague of darkness comes the plague of death," implying severe consequences for any attacks against Israel. The strikes were reportedly timed with a speech by Houthi leader Abdul-Malik Badreddin al-Houthi, though the address continued without interruption.

This recent confrontation follows an earlier attack by Israel on Sunday, which was in retaliation for missile launches from the Houthis. That engagement resulted in casualties, with reports citing six fatalities and 86 injuries, based on information from a spokesperson for the Houthi Health Ministry. The ongoing conflict between Israel and the Houthis has persisted for nearly two years, significantly escalating since the October 7 attacks by Hamas. The Houthis have openly threatened to target Israel and have conducted missile and drone attacks that were intercepted by U.S. military forces.

Israel’s military response has included strikes on Houthi-controlled regions in Yemen, including the crucial port city of Hodeidah, as a countermeasure to the hostilities. Supportive of Palestinian actions in Gaza, the Houthis have maintained their military pressures against Israel, including launching a ballistic missile at Israel in late August as a sign of solidarity with the Palestinians.
