In Singapore, the MRT train service on the Downtown Line (DTL) is progressively resuming operations between Bukit Panjang and Beauty World stations after experiencing a disruption due to a signalling fault. The operator, SBS Transit, reported that the issue was resolved at 7.22 AM on Thursday, August 28, following an hour of service interruption. Initially, at 6.34 AM, SBS Transit had notified passengers via Facebook about the lack of DTL service in that segment and apologized for the inconvenience.
During the disruption, SBS Transit activated free regular and bridging bus services for affected commuters at designated stops. By 7.15 AM, the operator announced ongoing recovery efforts, which included introducing a train shuttle service between the Bukit Panjang and Beauty World stations. Commuters were also encouraged to explore alternative transportation options through the SBS Transit and LTA MyTransport applications, while DTL services continued to operate smoothly between Beauty World and Expo stations.
This latest disruption is not an isolated incident, as the month has seen several challenges with train services. For instance, on August 6, the East-West Line underwent a five-hour outage, while on August 12, a power fault affected 11 stations on the North East Line for three hours. Additionally, on August 15, power issues impacted services on the Sengkang-Punggol Light Rail Transit for four hours, and the Thomson-East Coast Line faced similar disruptions in July for over an hour. Several incidents in July also interrupted the Bukit Panjang LRT service due to power faults.
