China's Naval Buildup and Rising Tensions in the South China Sea

China has recently displayed its newest amphibious assault warship, the Type 075, during military exercises in the South China Sea. The unveiling of the fourth vessel of this class, the CNS Hubei, coincides with Taiwan's increased defensive military drills, preparing for a potential Chinese invasion. The Type 075 is designed to deploy troops via helicopters and transport tanks, armored vehicles, and landing craft.

Tensions in the South China Sea have risen due to intensified Chinese naval activities. Taiwan's deputy foreign minister has expressed concerns, anticipating a possible invasion attempt in the near future. Despite these warnings and China's commitment to "reunification" with Taiwan, a significant portion of Taiwan's population remains skeptical about an imminent attack.

China has also demonstrated assertive actions in the Second Thomas Shoal, a disputed area in the Spratly Islands, deploying numerous Coast Guard vessels. Philippine military officials reported observing Chinese vessels practicing the use of water cannons, accompanied by military aircraft. This behavior aligns with a pattern of increased Chinese naval presence in the area over the past two years, including the deployment of the Type 075. Earlier, a Chinese naval ship collided with a Chinese coast guard vessel while pursuing a Philippine patrol boat, resulting in damage to both.

Further incidents include a warning from China to Australia, forcing the diversion of commercial flights during live-fire drills in the Tasman Sea. Australia's Defense Minister expressed concern over this action. In response to these actions, the US, UK, and other allied nations, including Australia, South Korea, France, and Germany, have increased cooperation through military exercises and operations, such as the Talisman Sabre 2025 exercise. China criticized Australia for hosting the U.S. Dark Eagle hypersonic missile during the war games.

Collisions and aggressive behavior are standard operating procedure for China. Their actions are increasingly reckless.

The use of Type 075 vessels and other naval deployments are clearly geared for a potential invasion of Taiwan. The world needs to be aware.
