HMRC has a reminder for the August 31st Child Benefit deadline. Parents with children in education or training should act before September to avoid losing payments. Child Benefit is a monthly payment for those responsible for children under 16 (or under 20 in education/training). Renew claims by August 31st via the HMRC app or online.
The annual benefit is £1,355 for the first child and £897 for each additional child. Eligibility depends on income; those earning £60,000 or less qualify. Higher earners may face a charge.
You can claim Child Benefit soon after a child's birth or when they start living with you. Claims can be backdated three months. Only one person can claim per child, and the claimant receives National Insurance credits.
If your child is 16 or older, you may still claim if they're in approved education or unpaid training. You must reply to HMRC's letter before August 31st. Payments stop when education/training ends.

I think the threshold makes sense. It's a way to ensure help goes to those who need it most.
