Polish Soldier Injured by Aggressive Migrants at Belarus Border

A soldier from Poland stationed at the border with Belarus was taken to the hospital after sustaining injuries during a confrontation with a group of aggressive migrants. The soldier was trying to prevent these individuals from illegally entering Poland when he sustained a hand injury. The incident, which occurred around 8 p.m. local time on Monday, unfolded while the soldier was enforcing direct measures, though further details were not provided. He received immediate first aid at the scene before being swiftly transported to a hospital in Białystok, where he is currently in stable condition, with no life-threatening injuries reported.

This soldier is part of a significant military operation involving 17,000 personnel aimed at reinforcing Poland's border amid a migrant crisis. The situation has prompted Poland to accuse both Belarus and Russia of facilitating the movement of migrants from the Middle East and Africa to the border area. The injured soldier, whose name has not been disclosed, is part of the ‘Safe Podlasie’ operation initiated last year in response to escalating tensions and increased incidents at the border. Troop deployment in the area has grown from 6,000 to approximately 17,000, with active forces and reserves strategically positioned.

Earlier incidents have led to confrontations, including one in July when Polish soldiers reported being attacked by migrants, resulting in one soldier discharging rubber bullets. In response to the ongoing crises at the border, Poland has invested significantly in security measures, including erecting a £300 million fence that has since undergone enhancements, such as the installation of surveillance cameras, ground sensors, and a patrol road. The fence is reinforced with razor wire, while border crossings feature solid concrete barriers and anti-tank defenses to prevent unauthorized access.
