Chinese and Russian Warships Conclude Joint Patrol in the Western Pacific

On August 20, 2025, a ceremony was held in undisclosed Western Pacific waters to bid farewell to Chinese and Russian sailors, marking the successful end of a joint maritime patrol after 15 days of operation. This patrol, which began on August 6 following a joint exercise called China-Russia Joint Sea-2025, involved the Chinese Type 052D guided missile destroyer Shaoxing and the Type 903 replenishment ship Qiandaohu, alongside the Russian Navy's large anti-submarine ship Admiral Tributs.

During the patrol, the naval forces engaged in several collaborative activities, including search and rescue missions, logistical replenishment, and air defense drills, showcasing their ability to operate under alternating or unified command structures. This initiative reflects the shared goals of both nations’ leadership to deepen military cooperation, as reported by China National Radio (CNR).

Experts noted that the drills fostered mutual trust and coordination between the Chinese and Russian sailors, allowing them to fully execute their planned exercises and facilitating discussions on strategic tactics. Zhang Junshe, a military expert, emphasized that such activities help counter potential security risks and cultivate a favorable atmosphere for peaceful regional progress.

Although the specific routes of the joint task force were not disclosed by the Chinese, media reports from Russia indicated a visit to Kamchatka for replenishment during the exercise, suggesting a significant distance was covered. Chinese military analyst Fu Qianshao pointed out that this extensive voyage is beneficial for enhancing the operational training of the Chinese Navy as it seeks to extend its reach into deeper waters.
