Trump Deploys National Guard to Washington, D.C. to Address Public Safety Concerns

During a press conference held at the White House, U.S. President Donald Trump declared that he is mobilizing the National Guard to support efforts in restoring law and order in Washington, D.C. He also mentioned that he has activated the Home Rule Act, which empowers him to place the Metropolitan Police Department under direct federal jurisdiction.

Trump characterized the day as "Liberation Day in D.C.," emphasizing his commitment to reclaiming the capital. He indicated that his administration recently increased the deployment of federal agents in the area, bringing in individuals from various agencies such as the FBI, DEA, and the Secret Service, among others.

Since returning to the presidency, Trump has expressed concerns over rising violent crime and homelessness in the capital, consistently attributing these issues to inadequate local government management and hinting at potential federal oversight. In response, Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser defended her administration's record, asserting that significant efforts have been made in recent years to reduce violent crime to its lowest levels in three decades.
