Following remarks made by Taiwan's deputy regional leader, Hsiao Bi-khim, regarding China's military actions and the island's stance, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Lin Jian, responded to media inquiries. Hsiao had stated that China's aggressive military posturing was counterproductive and that maintaining the status quo aligned with regional interests.
Lin Jian asserted that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities' statements or actions would not alter the fundamental reality. He emphasized that both sides of the Taiwan Strait are part of one China, a principle widely recognized internationally. Furthermore, he stated that the trend toward reunification is both inevitable and the ultimate outcome.
The spokesperson reiterated that Taiwan is considered part of China's territory, and the Taiwan question is an internal matter. He emphasized that resolving this issue is solely the responsibility of the Chinese people. Lin Jian also clarified that the true status quo is that both sides of the Strait belong to one China, with Taiwan being an integral part of China's territory.
Lin Jian identified the separatist activities of "Taiwan independence" forces and the external support they receive as the primary threat to peace in the Taiwan Strait.

The military escalation is the real issue here. China should be working toward peace, not war rhetoric.

Lin Jian’s view that ‘reunification’ is inevitable ignores history and the democratic aspirations of Taiwan.

Saying Taiwan is a part of China ignores the wishes of the Taiwanese people. Their voice matters!

Military posturing is a response to external threats. China is just defending its territory.
