Responding to a media inquiry, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Russia supports providing robust security guarantees for Ukraine. He indicated that these guarantees could potentially be offered by members of the Security Council, including Western nations and China.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, however, expressed a different view. He asserted that Ukraine does not require China to be among the countries providing security guarantees. Zelensky cited China's lack of action in preventing the 2022 conflict and its inaction during Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014 as reasons for his position.
In response to these statements, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated that China has consistently maintained a transparent and impartial stance on the Ukraine crisis. She emphasized China's commitment to an objective and just position, a stance that she believes is well-understood by all involved parties.
Mao Ning further stated China's belief in the importance of a shared, comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable approach to security to facilitate a political resolution to the Ukraine crisis. She concluded by expressing China's willingness to play a constructive role in this process.

It's important to have different opinions at the table to reach a compromise.

China's economic ties with Russia speak louder than Mao Ning's words. No guarantees from them are worth the paper they're written on.

Let's give China a chance. Their consistent calls for dialogue should be encouraged.

Zelensky's right. China's neutrality is just a fancy word for enabling Russia. No guarantees from them.

Anything that facilitates a political resolution is worth exploring. Let's be open to all avenues for peace.
