South Korea's Former First Lady Kim Keon Hee Arrested on Multiple Charges

Kim Keon Hee, who formerly held the title of first lady in South Korea, has been taken into custody following accusations related to a scheme involving stock manipulation, meddling in elections, and accepting bribes. This incident is particularly notable as it leads to an unprecedented occurrence wherein both she and her husband, former president Yoon Suk Yeol, are facing detention at the same time. Reports indicate that the arrest stems from a warrant issued by a South Korean court to prevent her from destroying potential evidence linked to the case.

The Seoul Central District Court authorized the arrest warrant requested by independent counsel Min Joong-ki, focusing on several serious charges. Meanwhile, Yoon Suk Yeol has been at a different detention facility since July 10, also facing insurrection charges related to a controversial attempt to impose martial law late last year.
