"Salute to Gaza Parade, Israeli Strikes, and the Human Cost of Conflict"

On August 23, dozens of boats participated in a “Salute to Gaza” parade along the Istanbul Strait, organized by the Open Rafah movement. A prominently displayed watermelon banner called for the opening of the Rafah crossing and urged support for Palestinians who are facing a blockade.

The situation in the conflict has escalated further, as Israeli air strikes targeted Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, on August 24, with significant damage reported near the presidential palace, power plants, and fuel storage sites, causing a large explosion and thick smoke across the area. Additionally, in Gaza, Israeli tanks were spotted near the border following threats from Defence Minister Israel Katz to reduce Gaza City to rubble if Hamas did not comply with cease-fire conditions and release hostages.

On August 25, tragedy struck when the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis was hit by an Israeli strike, resulting in the deaths of cameramen Hussam Al Masri from Palestine TV and Mohammed Salama from Al Jazeera, bringing the total number of journalists killed since the escalation began in October 2023 to 241. The recent assaults included a devastating “double-tap” attack on the Nasser Hospital, which claimed at least 15 lives, including four journalists, while medical staff continued the fight to keep the hospital operational despite the ongoing violence.

Furthermore, US National Guard troops, equipped with firearms and deployed in Washington, DC, have been described by officials as a measure for self-defense amid a federal crackdown on crime. Critics argue this presence, especially near significant landmarks like the Capitol, is more indicative of President Trump's display of authority than a legitimate initiative to combat crime.

We must support humanitarian aid to Gaza. The people will not survive without support and access to goods.

Double-tap attacks are tragic, but war is an ugly business. All sides need to take responsibility for their actions.

The double-tap attack on the Nasser Hospital is a deliberate act of violence against civilians. How can these people sleep?

The world must condemn these attacks on the innocent civilians. It is a criminal behavior and these people must be taken to justice.

Israel's collective punishment of Palestinians is a crime against humanity. This will be remembered.
