East Japan Railway Co. reported the resumption of Tohoku Shinkansen services as of 5 p.m. on Sunday. This followed a period of suspended operations between Tokyo and Morioka stations, impacting travel along the high-speed rail line.
The service disruption stemmed from a mechanical issue that occurred on one of the bullet trains. The train experienced a malfunction, forcing it to come to a standstill between stations, which subsequently necessitated the temporary suspension of the entire line segment.
The specific train involved was Yamabiko No. 63, which was en route from Tokyo to Morioka. The train came to a halt between Omiya and Oyama stations at around 2:10 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, causing significant delays for passengers.
Following a thorough inspection of the affected train, JR East was able to restart the train at 3:55 p.m. The train then proceeded towards Oyama Station, but at a reduced speed to ensure passenger safety. Approximately 560 passengers were aboard the train and were scheduled to transfer to a different Shinkansen train at Oyama Station to continue their journey. The incident caused considerable inconvenience for those traveling on the line.
