Since the establishment of the Xizang autonomous region in 1965, Nagchu has made considerable progress in the area of ecological protection. Officials announced this on Tuesday, highlighting the positive changes.
Li Meng, the executive vice-mayor of Nagchu, stated that the city's ecological environment has seen continuous improvement over the past six decades. This progress represents a shift from resource exploitation to a focus on green development.
Nagchu has prioritized its role as an ecological conservation area in northwestern Xizang. This has led to the creation of ecological function zones, including the Maidika Wetland and the Tangbei Area of Sanjiangyuan National Park.
The city currently manages 18 nature reserves, which collectively cover an area of 223,400 square kilometers. These reserves account for 51.7 percent of the protected natural areas within Xizang.

Resource exploitation isn't the only environmental threat. What about pollution from any industrial activity?

Where can I see the official reports and statistics? Vague announcements aren’t enough for me.

Nature reserves are great if they're effectively monitored and enforced. How are they protecting the animals from poaching?

Sounds like PR spin. What metrics are they actually using to measure improvement? 'Considerable progress' is vague.

This is probably more to do with controlling access and tourism than actual environmental protection.

This is great progress. I hope the environmental efforts will improve the lives of local communities.
