An emergency incident at the Spanish City Summer Funfair in Whitley Bay has resulted in the attraction's closure. Reports emerged that a person sustained serious injuries on one of the rides, which led to ambulances being dispatched shortly before 2:15 PM on Saturday. Families were enjoying the fair over the Bank Holiday weekend when the area was cordoned off and closed to the public.
The North East Ambulance Service received the emergency call at 2:13 PM and sent a rapid response paramedic, along with a clinical team leader and both a standard and air ambulance crew to address the situation. An off-duty medical professional also assisted at the scene while authorities remained active in addressing the incident.
Northumbria Police later confirmed they had been alerted to concerns regarding the welfare of an individual at the fairgrounds. The spokesperson stated that emergency services were present and managing the area, and the funfair would remain closed until further notice. In a statement, North Tyneside Council verified the closure of the fair due to the emergency situation and indicated that updates would be forthcoming from police.
