In a recent statement, Chen Binhua, the spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, addressed inquiries about the planned trip of Taiwan's regional leader, Lai Ching-te, to Paraguay, Guatemala, and Belize, which includes stops in New York and Dallas for "transit." He expressed a strong opposition to any kind of official engagement between the United States and Taiwan, asserting that Lai's anticipated stops in the US should not occur under any circumstances or justifications.
Chen urged the United States to respect the one-China principle and to carefully navigate issues related to Taiwan, in order to prevent any miscommunications that could empower separatist movements for Taiwanese independence. He warned the government in Taiwan that attempting to achieve independence with US support is a misguided endeavor that is unlikely to succeed. Furthermore, Chen highlighted that the one-China principle is a widely accepted norm in international relations, supported by the majority of global nations, and he called on Latin American countries to understand this prevailing trend and contribute positively to China-Latin America cooperation.

Let’s work towards cooperation rather than division. Chen's call for better understanding is essential.

Separatism? It's called self-determination, and Taiwan should have the right to choose its own future!

Chen's claims only show China's desperate need to control Taiwan's narrative.
