On Wednesday evening in Kobe, a 24-year-old woman, Megumi Katayama, was fatally stabbed. The Hyogo prefectural police have reported that the perpetrator remains at large.
The incident occurred around 7:20 p.m. in the victim's apartment building. Katayama entered an elevator, where she was confronted and attacked by a man. The assailant used what appeared to be a knife.
Following the attack, Katayama was discovered bleeding in the hallway on the sixth floor, near the elevator. Emergency services transported her to a hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries.
Police investigations, including the review of security camera footage, indicate that Katayama entered the elevator, followed shortly after by a man who was seen running. The victim did not appear to be aware of his presence. Authorities believe the suspect is in his twenties or thirties and are actively searching for him.

The lack of safety protocol in residential buildings is alarming. Why aren't landlords held responsible?

This is absolutely tragic and unnecessary. When will we prioritize safety?

I can't believe this happened in Kobe. We need more surveillance and safety measures!
