The Friday night NRL schedule featured a highly anticipated match between the Penrith Panthers and the Canberra Raiders in Mudgee, kicking off the evening's games. Panthers captain Issah Yeo was a late addition to the team. Later in the evening, the Melbourne Storm, ranked second, faced the third-placed Canterbury Bulldogs at AAMI Park.
The match between Penrith and Canberra was a fast-paced affair, showcasing the skills of two top teams. Penrith center Casey McLean scored two tries, giving the Panthers a narrow lead at halftime. The Raiders' captain, Joseph Tapine, also scored a try.
Early in the second half, Liam Martin scored a try for Penrith. Unfortunately, Canberra's right-winger, Xavier Savage, suffered a left shoulder injury and was taken off the field. Sebastian Kris moved from centre to the wing, with Simi Sasagi taking his place at centre.
The first try of the match was scored by Penrith's Casey McLean. A grubber kick from Blaize Talagi bounced off the legs of Raiders players, eventually leading to McLean diving on the ball to score. The Raiders had previously withstood pressure from the Panthers, but could not prevent the try.
