South African all-rounder Prenelan Subrayen has been reported for a suspect bowling action following the Proteas' win in the first one-day international against Australia. The 31-year-old off-spinner, who secured the crucial wicket of Travis Head early in the match and finished with figures of 1-46 in his 10 overs, was making his ODI debut in the 98-run victory in Cairns.
The match officials' report raised concerns regarding the legality of his bowling action. Subrayen is now required to undergo an independent assessment of his action at an ICC-accredited testing facility within the next 14 days. This development presents a setback for the Proteas, who are already without their injured star paceman, Kagiso Rabada.
Subrayen's recent achievements include his first Test appearance against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo just two months prior. He expressed immense pride and emotion upon receiving his first ODI cap in Cairns.
Subrayen's bowling action has been under scrutiny for over a decade. In December 2012, Cricket South Africa (CSA) placed him under rehabilitation after two independent tests deemed his action illegal. He was later cleared to bowl again in January 2013 after re-testing. Further reports followed in the subsequent two years, but he was eventually cleared to resume bowling after an examination at South Africa's national performance center in March 2016.

Doubtful he thought much about the legality of his bowling before.

Here we go again! Another bowler with a dodgy action. Can't the ICC do anything about this?

The ICC needs stricter enforcement of these bowling action rules. It undermines the game.

Supporting him to get back to the game he loves.
