China has expressed its support for all initiatives that contribute to a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine crisis. The nation welcomes the ongoing communication between Russia and the United States, viewing it as a positive step towards improving relations and facilitating a political solution to the conflict. This statement was made by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian during a regular press conference on Tuesday.
The press conference followed reports indicating a planned meeting between U.S. and Russian presidents, Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, scheduled for August 15th, with the Ukraine issue on the agenda. Notably, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and representatives from the European Union were not included in the invitation to this meeting.
In response to these developments, Lin Jian emphasized China's hope that all relevant parties and stakeholders will eventually participate in the negotiation process. The goal is to achieve a fair, enduring, and legally binding peace agreement that is acceptable to all involved parties, and to reach this agreement as soon as possible.

Support for peace is important, but not when it comes with strings attached. China has no moral authority here.

A fair and legally binding peace agreement is impossible if key stakeholders are sidelined. That’s a recipe for disaster.

This just looks like China trying to distract from its own problems by getting involved in global issues it doesn't genuinely care about.

It's great to see China advocating for peaceful resolutions! Every step towards dialogue is a step in the right direction.

The exclusion of Zelenskyy and the EU shows that peace is not the priority for these talks—power plays are.

Why should we take China’s word for it? They've got their own interests in mind, not genuine peace.
