A group of teenage Scouts experienced distressing online harassment marked by offensive and racist remarks, stemming from a misunderstanding where locals mistook them for illegal immigrants. This incident occurred while the group was camping at the CRAI Scout Activity Park in Newbridge, where a misleading video surfaced on Facebook, incorrectly stating that Gwent police were overseeing the site.
In response to the situation, police have launched an investigation into the racially charged comments that emerged as a result of the video, which has since been removed. Temporary chief superintendent Jason White expressed the need to address the misinformation circulating on social media, reminding the public to evaluate the language they use and to seek information from trustworthy sources. He underscored that this group was merely visiting for a well-established Scout camp, and that many of the individuals involved were minors.
The CRAI Scout Activity Park, recognized for its inclusive atmosphere, stated that they are closely collaborating with South Wales police to deal with the racially aggravated incident involving under-18s. The organization emphasized its dedication to maintaining a safe environment for all guests and confirmed their commitment to taking prompt and decisive action against any unacceptable behavior. Additionally, the activity center near Caerphilly provides a variety of outdoor accommodations and facilities for community groups.
