In a devastating event on Monday afternoon, three people lost their lives due to a shooting at a Target store located on Research Boulevard in Austin, Texas, as confirmed by local police. The tragic incident unfolded around 2:15 p.m., prompting first responders to arrive within four minutes, where they discovered two victims deceased in the parking lot and a third individual who later succumbed to injuries at a nearby hospital.
The suspect, described as a 32-year-old white male with previous mental health problems and a criminal record, initially fled the scene in a stolen vehicle, which he crashed before stealing another car. He was eventually subdued and taken into custody by officers using a Taser in south Austin. Although authorities were still investigating the motives behind the shooting, it was reported that four other individuals sustained injuries.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis expressed the profound sorrow felt in the community, highlighting the impact of the tragedy during a time when families were preparing for the back-to-school season. The police began evacuating shoppers to a nearby PetSmart and urged the public to avoid the area as they conducted the investigation, which included holding vehicles in the store's parking lot until they could be released to their owners.

Mental health is serious, but we can’t ignore the role of guns in these tragedies. It’s a complicated issue we must tackle!

Why are we still allowing people with a criminal record to have access to guns? This needs to be addressed!

Another tragic shooting at a public place... it’s so disturbing and totally preventable if only we had better laws.

The police's response was quick, but what about preventing these events altogether?
