The heatwave, originating in northwest Africa and Iberia, will bring above-average temperatures to several European countries. Temperatures in Spain and Portugal may reach the 40s Celsius inland. Health impacts are expected, especially for those unacclimatized to the heat. Tragically, a Romanian boy died from heatstroke in Italy.

Spain's red warnings indicate "significant risk," with health problems like heatstroke possible. Italy has also issued red alerts. France's red warning urges vigilance, particularly for vulnerable groups.

Extreme heat and strong winds have caused "fire whirls" in northern Spain, leading to evacuations. Portugal and Turkey are also battling wildfires.
