In a statement released by state media, North Korean defense chief No Kwang Chol emphasized that the country would respond firmly to any provocations stemming from the anticipated joint military drills by South Korea and the United States. These exercises, referred to as Ulchi Freedom Shield, are set to take place from August 18 to 28, and have historically been a source of tension between North Korea and its neighbors.
North Korea views the collaboration between Seoul and Washington, which includes around 28,500 US troops stationed in South Korea, as rehearsals for an invasion. No Kwang Chol asserted that the armed forces of North Korea, also known as the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), would maintain a strong posture and act under their right to self-defense against the military exercises.
Despite the longstanding animosity characterized by military confrontations and political tensions, there have been recent efforts to ease relations, as evidenced by both sides dismantling propaganda loudspeakers along their shared border.

So, they're going to retaliate for drills? That's the definition of unreasonable.

Instead of threatening, why doesn't North Korea engage in constructive dialogue and work towards peace?

I think they're right to have grave concerns about these exercises, it's a natural response.
