In a setback for Australia's aspirations of securing their first title, former Olympic sevens champion Charlotte Caslick has been withdrawn from the women's Rugby World Cup in England. Caslick, recognized as the sevens World Player of the Year in 2016, sustained an ankle injury during a match against New Zealand last month. Despite this, she was initially included in Jo Yapp's Australia squad announced last week.
However, the timeline for Caslick's recovery and availability during the World Cup pool phase has shifted. Following medical recommendations, the decision was made to allow her to continue with an accelerated recovery program. This would potentially allow her to be available as an injury replacement later in the tournament if needed.
Jo Yapp expressed disappointment at losing Caslick so close to the World Cup, acknowledging her significant commitment to the XVs program and the Wallaroos this year.
To fill the void, uncapped centre Manu'a Moleka has been called into the squad as a replacement. Yapp expressed excitement about Moleka's inclusion, highlighting her involvement with the touring squad since the beginning of the international test season and her deserving of this opportunity.
Australia's tournament journey will commence against Samoa in Manchester on August 23, followed by pool matches against the United States and England.

Tough break for Caslick, but the medical team are doing the right thing. Player health first! Best of luck for a speedy recovery.

Great to see her placed on a fast recovery program. Could be a massive boost if she can return later in the tournament!

A massive loss. Will the medical team be able to substitute someone who is at the same talent level? Very unlikely.
