The official arrival and departure services for the upcoming Chengdu World Games commenced on Sunday, marking a significant step in preparations for the event. The Singaporean floorball team, comprising 14 athletes and four officials, was the first group to land at Chengdu Tianfu International Airport at 8:25 am. They were able to use designated channels for customs and immigration, ensuring a smooth transition through airport procedures. Coach Tan Yiru praised the efficiency of the process.
The Chengdu World Games, which is the twelfth edition of this esteemed international multisport event, will take place in Chengdu until August 17. This year's games will feature a total of 34 sports with 256 events, and it holds the distinction of being the first time the event has been hosted on the Chinese mainland. As the floorball match approaches on Wednesday, Coach Tan expressed his excitement, balancing the pressure with the importance of the athletes enjoying the competition.
Athlete Swee Ling shared her enthusiasm for participating in the Chengdu games, highlighting the team's opportunity to face off against some of the world's best in floorball. As a newcomer to Chengdu, she also expressed her eagerness to explore the local culture, particularly hoping to see the giant pandas and indulge in the famous local spicy hotpot.
Joel Tan Zhien, Singapore's consul general in Chengdu, was present to greet the athletes upon their arrival and noted that the Singaporean delegation is scheduled to compete in eight sporting disciplines. He emphasized that while strong performances are desired, the spirit of friendship and cultural exchange between Singapore and China is equally important.
Ou Yusong, the deputy executive director of the arrival and departure center, mentioned that their operational services will continue until August 18. The center has collaborated with customs and immigration authorities, as well as transportation entities, to streamline the entry and exit processes for all participants.
_CUSTOMS officer Peng Yun noted that integrated smart clearance channels are enhancing efficiency during the arrival process. Moreover, specific clearance zones for large equipment like kayaks and bicycles have been set up to accommodate the needs of the athletes. In addition, Chengdu Customs has partnered with eight other customs authorities to provide round-the-clock clearance services for games participants and their equipment._
