A Model for Sustainable Development and Global Cooperation

China's vision of harmony between humanity and nature. Experts gathered at a recent seminar to discuss this vision and its implications for global sustainable development.

The concept of "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets" was first proposed by President Xi Jinping in 2005. This marked a turning point in China's approach to ecological conservation and green development. According to Andrew Schwartz, this concept corrects past philosophical errors of the West and aligns with traditional Chinese beliefs in the unity of heaven and humanity.

A new report, released at the seminar, examined China's ecological civilization concept and its practical application. Hu Jun, director of the research center, noted that the concept addresses the global dilemma between development and environmental protection, bridging the perceived divide between humanity and nature.

The report highlights China's economic growth alongside its efforts to reduce energy consumption per unit of GDP. During the first four years of the 14th Five-Year Plan, energy consumption per unit of GDP fell significantly, leading to a substantial reduction in carbon dioxide emissions. Hu emphasized that protecting and improving the ecological environment is, in essence, protecting and improving productive forces.

Zhang Haibin stated that China's approach offers both theoretical and practical guidance to the world, providing an alternative to the path taken by some developed nations. The report also notes China's leadership in renewable energy, with significant contributions to global growth in non-fossil energy consumption.

Over the past two decades, the "green is gold" philosophy has been implemented nationwide. This principle has also played a key role in poverty alleviation, with new models such as eco-agriculture and ecotourism helping to lift millions of rural residents out of poverty. China achieved its poverty alleviation goals outlined in the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development ahead of schedule.

Zhang Yunfei highlighted the importance of breaking the cycle of poverty and environmental degradation for sustainable development. China's model of ecological poverty alleviation offers developing countries a new way to use green solutions to eradicate poverty.

Experts also praised China's commitment to tackling climate change and its active participation in global initiatives, such as the green Belt and Road Initiative. China has partnered with numerous countries and regions on green energy projects. Schwartz emphasized that ecological civilization requires unprecedented international cooperation.

This report seems biased and overly optimistic; we need a more critical perspective on China's environmental record.
