Liverpool's Mohamed Salah has voiced his disapproval of UEFA's tribute to Suleiman Al-Obeid, a prominent Palestinian footballer often referred to as the "Palestinian Pele." Salah's criticism stemmed from UEFA's omission of the circumstances surrounding Al-Obeid's death.
UEFA's initial post on X described Al-Obeid as a talented individual who inspired hope, even in difficult times. However, the post failed to acknowledge the details of his death. Salah directly questioned UEFA, asking for clarification on how, where, and why Al-Obeid died.
The Palestine Football Association subsequently reported that Al-Obeid, aged 41, was killed by an Israeli strike. The strike targeted civilians waiting for humanitarian aid in southern Gaza. Al-Obeid, a father of five, was a celebrated figure in Palestinian football, having played 24 official matches for the national team and scored two goals.
Palestinian officials have stated that over 800 Palestinian athletes have been killed by Israel since October 7, 2023.

Not every tribute can cover every angle. UEFA meant well—let's not overreact.
