China Opposes Congressional Delegation Visit to Taiwan

In light of reports about the potential visit of the chairman of the US Senate Armed Services Committee to the Taiwan region, marking the first such visit by a senator in this capacity since 2016, the Chinese Defense Ministry has made its stance clear. Official spokesperson Jiang Bin firmly criticized any form of official engagement between the United States and Taiwan, declaring that there is only one China and that Taiwan is an inseparable part of this nation.

Jiang urged the United States to respect the one-China principle as well as the agreements established in the three China-US joint communiqués. Furthermore, he called for the US to honor its commitments to not endorse "Taiwan independence." He also stressed the need for the US to cease all official interactions and military connections with Taiwan and to stop providing any support to Taiwanese separatists seeking independence. In response to these developments, Jiang noted that the People's Liberation Army will maintain a state of heightened alert and is prepared to take decisive action to protect China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
