According to a report from the Anti-Drug Department (ADP), Cambodia has detained 14,977 suspects involved in drug-related activities between January and July 2025, reflecting a 2.7% rise compared to the same period last year. Among those arrested, 537 were foreigners, including 79 women, highlighting the country's ongoing battle against drug trafficking.
During these months, authorities successfully seized a total of 1.91 tons of illegal drugs, which encompasses 505 kilograms of dried cannabis and 12,212 fresh cannabis plants found in the suspects' possession. Additionally, law enforcement agencies confiscated 19 tons of chemical precursors, various firearms including 35 pistols and 18 rifles, as well as numerous vehicles such as 112 cars and 1,488 motorcycles, along with thousands of phones and scales, accompanied by some cash.
The majority of the drugs seized consisted of substances such as ketamine, ecstasy, heroin, crystal methamphetamine, methamphetamine pills, cocaine, and cathinone. Notably, Cambodia does not impose the death penalty for drug traffickers; however, individuals convicted of trafficking over 80 grams of illicit drugs face the possibility of life imprisonment in accordance with local laws.

This report reads like just another press release. Where's the in-depth analysis of why these arrests are happening, and how to actually solve the drug problem?

2.7% rise? That's a failure. The government's drug policies aren't working. More arrests, indicating rising drug use and trafficking, but the problem persists.

Seizing 1.91 tons of illegal drugs is a huge win. This is a step forward and prevents further harm to the community.

This is a significant step in combating drug trafficking. 14,000+ arrests is not just another success for justice.

The fact that authorities are focusing on a wide variety of drugs suggests a well-rounded and comprehensive approach.
