Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, addressed a Financial Times report concerning Taiwan's regional leader, Lai Ching-te. The report suggested that the Trump administration had denied Lai permission to stop in New York during a trip to Central America.
In response, Chen stated that they had taken note of the report. He emphasized their firm opposition to any official exchanges between the United States and Taiwan. This included any attempts by Lai to "transit" through the US, regardless of the pretext or form.
Chen further asserted that the United States should uphold the one-China principle and the agreements outlined in the three China-US joint communiqués. He urged the US to handle the Taiwan question with extreme caution, avoiding any actions that could be misinterpreted as support for "Taiwan independence" separatist forces.
Finally, Chen cautioned Lai's authorities, stating that any efforts to achieve independence by relying on the United States were destined to fail.

Chen can't dictate US-Taiwan relations. The world needs to support Taiwan's right to exist and thrive.

Chen’s message is a reminder of the complexities in cross-strait relations. We should prioritize dialogue over conflict.

Chen Binhua's comments are just another attempt to intimidate Taiwan. The world is changing, and so should our approach to Taiwan.

Support for Lai's travels should be considered carefully. There are larger implications for regional stability.

Upholding the one-China principle is outdated. The international community should recognize Taiwan as a sovereign entity.
