Liverpool's Mohamed Salah has voiced his disapproval of UEFA's commemoration of Suleiman Al-Obeid, often referred to as the "Palestinian Pele." Salah's criticism stemmed from UEFA's failure to acknowledge the circumstances of Al-Obeid's death, which occurred at the hands of Israeli forces in Gaza.
UEFA's initial post on X described Al-Obeid as a talented individual who inspired hope, even during difficult times. Salah's response directly questioned the omission of crucial details surrounding Al-Obeid's death, specifically asking for clarification on how, where, and why he died.
The Palestine Football Association confirmed that Al-Obeid, aged 41, was killed by an Israeli strike while waiting for humanitarian aid in southern Gaza. Al-Obeid, a father of five and a native of Gaza, is widely regarded as a prominent figure in Palestinian football. He represented the national team in 24 official matches, scoring two goals.
Palestinian officials have reported that over 800 Palestinian athletes have been killed by Israel since October 7, 2023.

The truth matters. UEFA's initial post was incomplete, and Salah is right to call them out.

UEFA can't be expected to provide full context every time. It was a tribute!

Why is the media always so quick to jump on Israel’s actions and never the other side’s

Another example of blaming Israel. Where's the condemnation of Hamas?

Good on Salah for speaking up. UEFA’s post was a whitewash.

UEFA is trying to acknowledge a talented player. Why does it have to be a debate about how he died? Sad regardless.
