Cessna Plane Crash in Somalia and Escalating Global Tensions Amid Humanitarian Crises

AMREF Flying Doctors reported that a Cessna aircraft crashed while en route to Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland, claiming the lives of six people—four passengers on the plane and two individuals on the ground. The plane lost communication shortly after taking off from Wilson Airport in Nairobi.

In a significant revelation, Doctors Without Borders has released a report detailing alleged assaults on humanitarian efforts by Israeli forces and private American contractors targeting vulnerable Palestinians at food distribution centers in Gaza operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. The report, backed by medical evidence and testimonies from patients, raises grave concerns about these sites, which MSF describes as heavily militarized and perilous rather than genuinely humanitarian.

Furthermore, MSF urges for immediate changes, including the disbanding of the GHF initiative, the return to a coordinated aid strategy led by the United Nations, and a cessation of financial and political backing, particularly from the United States and private entities. From June to July 2025, MSF clinics in the Al-Mawasi and Al-Attar areas treated 1,380 injured individuals with cases linked to violence near GHF distribution sites, including 28 fatalities and numerous children affected by gunfire.

In a separate development, French President Emmanuel Macron has demanded stricter visa requirements for Algerian diplomats, heightening diplomatic tensions amid Algeria’s refusal to accept deported nationals from France. Macron detailed his concerns in a letter to Prime Minister François Bayrou and sought a more rigorous stance against Algeria following recent diplomatic strains stemming from France’s acknowledgment of Morocco's claim over Western Sahara.

The President instructed his Foreign Minister to officially suspend a visa-free agreement for Algerian diplomats established in 2013 and to ensure coordination with Schengen nations regarding short-stay visas for Algerian officials. Amidst these developments, Italian opposition members from the Five Star Movement made a statement in Parliament by wearing clothing in the colors of the Palestinian flag, symbolizing their support for global humanitarian efforts. MP Riccardo Ricciardi emphasized Italy's need to recognize Palestine, questioning why Italy has not yet done so given widespread international acknowledgment.
