Aston Villa announced the signing of Evann Guessand, a forward from the Ivory Coast, who joins the Premier League club from Nice, a Ligue 1 team. The announcement was made on Friday.
The club did not reveal the specifics of the contract, including its length or the financial terms of the transfer. However, reports in the media suggest the deal is for five years and valued at 35 million euros.
Guessand's football journey began in Nice's youth system, where he developed before making his senior debut in 2020. He gained experience through loan spells with Lausanne-Sport in Switzerland and Nantes in France. His most successful season to date was the 2024-25 campaign, where he scored 12 goals in Ligue 1, contributing to Nice's fourth-place finish.
In addition to his club achievements, Guessand also scored his first goal for the Ivory Coast national team in March. The goal secured a 1-0 victory against Burundi during the World Cup qualifiers.
In a video shared by Aston Villa on social media, Guessand expressed his enthusiasm for the move. He stated that he didn't hesitate when he learned of Villa's interest and is prepared to give his best for the team.
Aston Villa, having finished sixth in the previous season, are set to start their new league campaign with a home match against Newcastle United on August 16.

Guessand is a player that can play different places in the attack. He is a good buy.

Hope he can handle the intensity of the Premier League. Ligue 1 is a different beast.

They're always slow to make signings, then when the team is already formed they throw money on any footballer.

Sixth place last season, and we're buying a Ligue 1 player with this sort of price. I'm not sure where we are trying to go

We needed a striker who can score now, not one to develop for the next few years.
