The Montreal Alouettes acquired McLeod Bethel-Thompson from the Edmonton Elks as a backup plan, intended to provide insurance in case of injury to Davis Alexander. However, the veteran quarterback has not performed well in relief of Alexander, who is sidelined with a hamstring injury for the second time this season. Friday's game against the Elks, where Cody Fajardo is starting, may be Bethel-Thompson's last chance to prove himself.
Alouettes head coach Jason Maas stated that Bethel-Thompson's focus is on producing results, which is essential in professional sports. Bethel-Thompson has started four games this season, with the Alouettes going 1-3 in those contests. He has appeared in eight games overall, completing 65.2% of his passes for 878 yards, with four touchdowns and four interceptions.
Bethel-Thompson acknowledged the importance of the upcoming game, emphasizing the need to bounce back from a poor performance the previous week. In a recent loss, he threw for only 126 yards with one interception. If Bethel-Thompson struggles again during the first half of Friday's game, Maas confirmed that Caleb Evans would be brought in as a replacement.
On the other side of the field, the Alouettes' defense will face Fajardo, who is now starting for Edmonton. The Alouettes traded Fajardo last off-season to retain Alexander. Fajardo is expected to be highly motivated in this game against his former team, which played a significant role in reviving his CFL career.
Maas anticipates Fajardo will bring extra motivation to the game. The Alouettes also announced that newly signed defensive back Ciante Evans will start at left corner, with Don Callis making his CFL debut as his backup. Following Friday's game, the Alouettes will enter their second bye week of the season.

Let the guy play! What do you expect? Not every player would be good every game.

Bethel-Thompson is cooked. Another bad performance and it's time to cut ties.

Maas has been giving him lots of support in the press. He needs to return the faith and do what is expected.

Honestly, he's been way too hesitant. Needs to take some chances and make plays.
