Charity Warns of Irreversible Harm and Calls for Action

A British charity delivering aid in Gaza has issued a dire warning about the devastating and irreversible consequences of starvation on the besieged population. Humanity & Inclusion highlights the plight of vulnerable groups, including individuals with disabilities, children, and newborns, who are innocent victims of a man-made humanitarian crisis now at "catastrophic levels." Malnutrition is directly linked to disability, exacerbating existing conditions and often leading to severe physical and cognitive impairments. The charity fears a generation will be born with disabilities due to prolonged malnutrition.

Despite the availability of life-saving aid, much of it remains undelivered, even within Gaza. The UN's calls to alleviate suffering have been ignored. The charity reports that over 83% of people with disabilities in Gaza have lost their assistive devices, hindering their mobility and access to assistance. They are calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, an end to the siege, and the restoration of a fully accessible UN-led humanitarian system.

Newborns are dying due to lack of formula and clean water, while many are born with disabilities due to maternal malnourishment. Nutritional deficiencies weaken immune systems, worsen injuries, and compound health complications. A British consultant surgeon described the widespread destruction of infrastructure and the lack of medical supplies. Aid is being blocked by Israeli authorities, preventing access to the most vulnerable. The charity emphasizes the irreversible harm being inflicted on children, including stunted growth, cognitive damage, and life-changing disabilities. They warn that the humanitarian catastrophe is creating mass, preventable disability and that the situation cannot continue.
