The 34th Meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation & Coordination on India-China Border Affairs took place in New Delhi on July 23rd. The meeting was co-chaired by Hong Liang, representing China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Gourangalal Das, from India's Ministry of External Affairs.
Representatives from various departments, including foreign affairs, defense, and immigration, from both countries were present. The Chinese delegation also met with Indian Foreign Secretary Shri Vikram Misri during their visit. The working mechanism, which has been held alternately in both countries, is considered crucial for maintaining stability and managing the border situation. It fosters equal cooperation, strengthens political trust, and helps prevent potential risks from escalating.
The meeting is taking place amidst a backdrop of improving relations, with senior officials expressing support for enhanced bilateral ties. India's recent decision to resume tourist visa applications for Chinese citizens is viewed as a positive sign.
