China Voices Strong Discontent Over European Parliament's Taiwan Visit

On Monday, a spokesperson representing the Chinese Mission to the European Union expressed significant discontent regarding a visit made by certain European Parliament members to Taiwan. The spokesperson emphasized that such a visit infringes upon the one-China principle and constitutes a severe intrusion into China's domestic matters.

The spokesperson insisted that the issue of Taiwan is central to China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, highlighting its significance within the nation's core interests. The one-China principle is regarded as a fundamental standard in international relations that is widely acknowledged globally and is a crucial basis for the relationship between China and the EU.

Moreover, the spokesperson reiterated that Taiwan-related matters are strictly domestic affairs for China, leaving no room for outside interference. China expressed outright opposition to any official interactions between the European Parliament and Taiwan's authorities, urging the EU to respect its political obligations to China.

To reinforce their position, the spokesperson called on European officials to promptly amend what they deemed as inappropriate actions and refrain from sending messages that could encourage "Taiwan independence" advocates. This call for action aims to uphold the one-China principle and protect the essential political foundation of the relationship between China and the EU.

Respecting Taiwan means respecting their right to communicate with other countries. No matter what China says!

This is just China trying to control the narrative. The EU should support Taiwan's right to self-determination.

It’s not an intrusion when representatives engage with democratically elected leaders. Stand with Taiwan!

China’s response is not surprising. The EU should focus on collaboration rather than agitating disputes.

Maintaining a healthy relationship with China means acknowledging their territorial stance on Taiwan.
