Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, addressed a media inquiry regarding the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities' plan to introduce new textbooks. These textbooks, intended for the upcoming semester, are described as focusing on "recognizing the threat from China." Local commentators have criticized this initiative, viewing it as a form of systematic "Taiwan independence" indoctrination. They believe it will negatively impact young people's understanding and damage cross-Straits relations.
Chen stated that the DPP authorities are steadfast in their pursuit of a separatist "Taiwan independence" agenda. He accused them of actively engaging in "de-Sinicization," disregarding historical accuracy, and distorting facts. The spokesperson suggested that the aim is to use these textbooks to sever the historical and cultural connections between the two sides of the Straits. This, he argued, would sow confusion in historical memory and manipulate the national identity of Taiwan's youth.
Chen emphasized that such actions, which he characterized as a rejection of shared heritage, would inevitably face strong opposition and disapproval from people on both sides of the Straits. He further warned that those who misuse their authority within the education system to misrepresent or alter the reality that Taiwan is part of China, along with all individuals involved, would be held responsible and face consequences.

Using textbooks to promote 'Taiwan independence'? That is irresponsible and dangerous.

The DPP's 'de-Sinicization' efforts are deeply concerning and damaging to our culture.

Cross-Straits relations are damaged by China's aggression, not by teaching history.

It's not 'de-Sinicization,' it's recognizing the differences between independent Taiwan and authoritarian China.

The DPP is elected by the people. If they want to update the curriculum, it's their right.

We must preserve our shared heritage and resist this intentional distortion of facts.
