China's Qin Haiyang secured a remarkable achievement at the World Aquatics Championships on Friday. He clinched the gold medal in the men's 200-meter breaststroke, adding to his earlier victory in the 100-meter event.
Qin, despite entering the final in eighth place, delivered a powerful performance, finishing in a time of two minutes and 7.41 seconds. Japan's Watanabe Ippei secured the silver medal with a time of 2:07.70, while Caspar Corbeau of the Netherlands took bronze, clocking in at 2:07.73.
The 26-year-old swimmer has made a significant impact on the international swimming scene. He previously astonished the swimming world at the 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka, where he earned four gold medals, including all three breaststroke events. He was absent from the 2024 Doha Worlds and returned from the Paris Olympic Games without an individual title.
This victory also represents Qin's fourth medal at the Singapore event. He previously earned a bronze medal in the 50-meter breaststroke and a silver medal in the 4x100-meter mixed medley relay.
