A tragic motor vehicle accident in Lakewood, New Jersey has led to the deaths of a mother and her young daughter, with authorities attributing the incident to Raul Luna-Perez, a 43-year-old illegal immigrant from Mexico. Luna-Perez was involved in a severe crash on July 26, which resulted in charges of vehicular homicide and assault by auto; he has a history of DUI offenses and domestic violence arrests earlier in the year.
According to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, police received reports of a crash shortly before midnight. Preliminary findings indicate that Luna-Perez was driving a Dodge Durango, lost control, and collided head-on with a Nissan Sentra. The driver of the Sentra was killed instantly, while her 11-year-old daughter succumbed to her injuries shortly thereafter in the hospital. Another child, seated in the back of the vehicle, sustained serious injuries and is currently in stable condition.
Witnesses reported that Luna-Perez exhibited signs of impairment, and he was taken to a local hospital for tests. Following the incident, Immigration and Customs Enforcement lodged a detainer against him, initiating removal proceedings as he remains in custody. The Department of Homeland Security disclosed that Luna-Perez had entered the U.S. illegally, while critics blame New Jersey's sanctuary policies for his earlier release into the community.

We need to stop allowing dangerous people to stay in our country. This is a tragedy and a direct result of the failure to control immigration.

They should have deported him after the first offense. Now two are dead.

His criminal background should have prevented him staying in the country in the first place. The law has been ignored.

So sad for the family of the victims. Let's hope the surviving child recovers quickly.
